Jose Villa’s two Mexico workshops in 2014 were a wonderfully collaborative experience with two unique visions. For the first week, Amber Moon of Pitbulls & Posies, Diana Perrin of Casa de Perrin and I worked on an inspiration board that felt like modern, sophisticated Mexico, and for the second week, one that evoked a style of classic old world Mexico.
I loved the idea of doing white-on-white embroidered napkins so we commissioned artist Karina Puente to do a custom pattern. We ended up using the pattern both weeks, but in different ways.
Amber Moon is a master in mixed media, so she had leather placemats made for the modern table. The vintage Mexican black metal chairs pulled the table design together so dramatically. For classic Mexico, we set the table with Casa de Perrin’s dusty blue lace china and worked with floral designer Saipua to incorporate a unique mix of golden yellows, rusts and orange tones. The dramatic taper candles and Mexican equipale chairs completed the elegant old world feel.
